How to Support Your Immune System

The news about coronavirus has spread quickly and the entire world sits on the edge of our seats as this epidemic continues.  

There have been cases reported all over the world. According to the Foreign Policy Journal, most of those who have died were elderly or people who’ve had compromised immune systems.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), common signs of infection include “respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.” 

Learning how to support your immune system, becoming aware of ways to avoid contact, how to derail pathogens and the spread of viral agents is the best way to effectively deal with the current health climate.  

During this time, I suggest supporting and boosting your immune system with natural remedies:

  • Eat clean healthy whole foods and avoid sugar. Just 1 tsp of sugar can suppress your immune system for four hours.

  • Stay hydrated and healthy with clean water, herbal tea and fresh green juices.

  • Get enough rested sleep. If you are sleep deprived your immune system weakens, your body must work harder and longer to keep you functioning daily. 

  • Having a restful sleep is not only vital to your body but, will keep your immune system functioning at its best. If sleep is an issue, I recommend booking an appointment with a wellness expert to address this concern. There are a plethora of tools, techniques and naturals ways to encourage better sleep patterns. 

  • Support your stress response. Your immune system is directly linked to your hormonal stress patterns, cortisol and adrenal levels. Keeping your stress level down impacts your immune intelligence by leaps and bounds. Use exercise, meditation, simple stretching, dance, hiking, and walking to alleviate stress and bring down adrenal fatigue.

There are many natural supplements and herbs that can be supportive of a healthy immune system.
