Breakfast Networking Club: Is Your Speaking Voice Sabotaging Your Career?

You may be the smartest person in the room, but if your speaking style is unpolished you will never be heard. Or worse, heard but not heeded.

This, according to Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, who writes in her bestseller, Lean In, that the way women communicate to management, colleagues, and clients is holding them back in the workplace.

Lucky for Verity Members, fellow Member and president of Speech Science International, Bonnie Gross, helps people speak more effectively and she recently shared her top tips at the October breakfast gathering. If you missed it, here are the highlights:

1. Get rid of negative speech habits such as “um” and poor pronunciation.

2. Remember that your voice is a powerful tool and use accordingly.

3. Use your posture and facial expressions to make people listen to your ideas.
